Self Care Rotator Cuff Treatment at Home

When you suffer from rotator cuff injury, it is not necessary that all pain should arise from the shoulder. It can also happen that the pain from heart can go up to shoulder accompanied by pain in gallbladder and diaphragm. The pain due to rotator cuff injury worsens the shoulder movement. If this pain persists for long then you should seek advice from doctor. But before that you should try some home care treatments.

The first home care treatment is to go for ice and rest. This is helpful in treating sprain and strain. At least three times a day you should apply ice for 15-20 minutes. A sling is always helpful to keep your shoulder in position. But do not wear this for long because the joints can become stiff due this.

You can also go for anti-inflammatory pills like naproxen or ibuprofen. These are just over-the-counter medicines which should be taken care when you have problems in kidney and stomach. But if the patient is taking blood thinner syrups then it is always better to check with a doctor or physician.

The minor injuries get healed by themselves but if you are injured badly you can try these steps. Just rest your shoulder and stop doing the things that caused this pain. Now limit the activity till the shoulder pain subsides. Now apply ice and heat to reduce the inflammation. A bag of frozen vegetables or cold pack can be of great help. After a day or two the heating pad might help to relax and tighten the sore muscles.

You should restrict the movement to avoid further rotator cuff injuries. Just avoid the positions that cause discomforts like playing volley ball, tennis or carrying heavy loads. In general stop any activity that causes strain to your shoulder. You can also take some pain relievers like aspirin, ibuprofen or naproxen. It is better to follow the labels and stop taking drugs when you get relief.

Most people respond to ice and heat differently. You should apply the one that suits your skin. In some cases heat is better but it can intensify the pain. Just remember that for sudden acute injury do not use heat for first two days.
